Senior Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Collaboratively enhance and promote a comprehensive framework for embedding data-driven thinking into the software development lifecycle for product teams.

• Design, architect, and sustain core operations datasets, data marts, and feature stores that support a combination of established products and features alongside a swiftly evolving product line, in collaboration with analytics, data science, and machine learning.

• Engage deeply with our cross-functional partners to grasp their data needs and assist in designing datasets with the same engineering precision as any other software we create.

• Champion data quality and best practices across various business domains.

• Contribute to the development of next-generation data products at Thumbtack, utilizing AI models for code generation and integrating agents into our workflows.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 4 years of experience in designing and constructing datasets and data warehouses.

• Exceptional ability to understand the needs of and collaborate with stakeholders in various functions, particularly Analytics, and identify opportunities for process enhancements across teams.

• Proficiency in SQL for analytics, reporting, and business intelligence, as well as for building SQL- and Python-based transformations within an ETL pipeline or similar.

• Experience in designing, architecting, and maintaining a data warehouse and data marts that seamlessly integrate data from production databases, clickstream data, and external APIs to serve multiple stakeholders.

• Expertise in building the aforementioned with a modern data stack based on a cloud-native data warehouse; in our case, we utilize BigQuery, dbt, and Apache Airflow, but a similar stack is acceptable.

• Experience leveraging AI to produce design plans, code, and documentation, as well as implementing AI-enabled workflows to enhance development speed and improve data engineering practices.

• A strong sense of ownership and pride in your work, spanning from ideation and requirements-gathering to project completion and ongoing maintenance.
