This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Design, construct, and sustain the infrastructure that reliably transfers and processes Spoiler Alert's marketplace data at scale, effectively utilizing AI coding tools to enhance quality and speed.
• Take ownership of the analytical schema within our data warehouse, which supports internal analytics, aggregate analytics, and customer-facing reporting in our data tools, ensuring precision, consistency, and proper documentation.
• Create and implement data quality standards throughout the stack, defining what constitutes trusted data at Spoiler Alert and establishing the monitoring and testing mechanisms that uphold these standards.
• Make deliberate architectural choices with the appropriate level of abstraction, documenting decisions and trade-offs so the team can build confidently on your contributions, including data infrastructure for effective AI/ML product applications.
• Deliver exemplary code in pipeline logic, SQL, and data modeling that serves as a learning resource for other engineers.
• Provide insightful code reviews that enhance our team’s methodologies and practices.
• Quickly troubleshoot and resolve data issues, driving root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
• Participate in shared support responsibilities and foster a culture of reliability across the data platform.
• Assume full accountability for data systems and roadmap initiatives, managing projects from design to production to iteration, while clearly communicating trade-offs and risks throughout the process.
• Collaborate with Product, Data, and Engineering teammates to ensure our pipelines, models, and tools facilitate reliable internal and external decision-making using our data.
• Recognize opportunities where enhanced data infrastructure provides leverage for Product, Data, Engineering, and Operations teams, advocating for those investments with clarity.
• Actively contribute to architecture discussions and Engineering reflections, influencing technical decisions with your expertise.
• 5–8+ years of experience in data engineering, preferably within a B2B SaaS, marketplace, or data products company.
• Extensive hands-on knowledge of the modern data stack, including pipeline tools (we utilize Estuary), workflow orchestration (we use Astronomer Airflow), transformations (we employ dbt), and BI tools with semantic layers (we use Holistics).
• Strong foundation in SQL and data modeling to create clean, well-structured models that others can build upon and maintain.
• Proven experience in managing data quality from end-to-end, including testing and observability frameworks, with a strong emphasis on reliability.
• AI-native skills: you effectively incorporate AI into your development workflows, building with curiosity and a balanced approach to strong opinions.
• Demonstrated ability to take responsibility for systems and themes, rather than just individual tasks or projects. You see projects through to completion while communicating clearly throughout the process.
• Ability to work collaboratively across functions with data analysts, product engineers, and non-technical stakeholders, providing clarity in ambiguous situations.
• Experience differentiators: familiarity with marketplace or transaction-platform data, applied AI/ML pipeline work, customer-facing analytics products, domain knowledge in food and beverage or CPG, and experience with integrating LLM tools into data workflows.
• Remote-first work environment, with co-working access for locals in BOS, NYC, & DEN.
• Competitive salary and stock option offerings.
• Subsidized health, dental, and vision insurance plans.
• Climate-focused, pre-tax 401(k) and post-tax Roth 401(k) options.
• 12-16 weeks of paid parental leave plus flexible return-to-work arrangements.
• More than 15 company holidays, including an "End of Year Reset Week."
• 20 vacation days and 10 sick days annually.
• Focus Fridays (no meetings scheduled after 1 PM local time).
• Summer Fridays (half-day).
• Paid volunteer outings and civic engagement leave.
• Annual flexible funds for remote work necessities, learning & development, and socializing with colleagues.
• Company-sponsored $500 FSA contribution.
