Senior Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design and manage the pipelines and integrations that support our RCT platform and core voter datasets: this includes APIs, replication, federation layers, experiment randomization, and addressing the failure modes that arise when operating data systems for numerous partner organizations on a strict political timeline.

• Enhance our data platform and orchestration layer, optimizing for cost, runtime, and reliability to ensure it performs well during elections, which involve millions of outreach attempts.

• Oversee projects that involve multiple systems and teams — defining the scope, designing solutions, and driving them toward tangible milestones.

• Maintain high standards of quality — test and validate your own work, review the code of teammates, and provide mentorship throughout the review process.

• Document processes and communicate effectively — ensure your systems are comprehensible to teammates, stakeholders, and non-technical individuals.

• Participate in on-call rotations and rapid response efforts, including evenings and weekends during critical periods such as election cycles.

⛳️ Requirements

• A strong passion for progressive politics, utilizing data, technology, organizing, and research to empower political movements.

• 3-6+ years of experience (either Senior or Mid-level) in designing, constructing, and managing production data pipelines and integrations.

• Proficient in SQL and Python.

• Experience in developing production software within a contemporary data stack — including cloud data warehouses (such as BigQuery or similar), transformation frameworks like dbt, and orchestrators like Dagster or Airflow.

• Proven track record of leading technical initiatives across various systems or teams and defining ambiguous problems from start to finish.

• Good judgment regarding when to refactor, when to pragmatically ship, and how to improve systems beyond their original state.

• Strong written communication skills — you document your creations and can articulate complex systems to non-engineers.

• A sincere commitment to the mission of combating fascism and building progressive power, along with comfort operating on a political timeline.

• **Nice to Have:**

• Experience within the progressive, political, advocacy, or nonprofit sectors — including understanding c3/c4/PAC boundaries and the sensitivities surrounding political and voter data.

• Familiarity with election results, voter file data, and the tools used by campaigns to organize, text, and reach out to voters.

• Experience using Google Cloud Platform.

• Experience in on-call rotations and mentoring junior engineers.

• Base salary ranging from **$90,000 to $119,000**, in addition to a **$5,000 end-of-cycle bonus** and a **work-life stipend of $2,100** in pre-tax dollars to support employees during peak work periods.
