Senior Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Design, enhance, and sustain stored procedures and SSRS reports within the ClubReady reporting framework.

• Take ownership of the customer-facing Postgres data mart product that caters to enterprise clients.

• Collaborate on the transition from the legacy Go ETL to the updated Fivetran → Snowflake → dbt → Postgres pipeline, working alongside the central data team.

• Act as a technical domain expert to assist data mart customers.

• Diagnose and resolve data discrepancies reported by customers.

• Create Azure DevOps work items, review pull requests, and work within two-week sprints.

• Manage the internal data dictionary as well as the external data documentation.

• Optimize queries and indexes for very large tables (multi-billion-row scale).

• Participate in customer calls with enterprise account managers and customer-side data analysts to define and deliver work.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in data engineering or BI development with a strong background in T-SQL and SQL Server in a transactional, customer-facing setting.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience.

• Hands-on experience with at least one analytics warehouse stack (Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift) and modern ELT tools (dbt, Fivetran, Airbyte, or similar).

• Strong instincts for query performance: indexing strategies, execution plans, statistics, partitioning, and rewriting patterns for legacy procedures.

• Proficient in SQL and at least one scripting language (Python preferred).

• Familiarity with SSRS or another enterprise reporting platform.

• Proven ability to function as a senior individual contributor: manage scope end-to-end with minimal supervision.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Comfortable collaborating directly with external customers and stakeholders (finance teams, account managers, customer-side analysts).
