
Senior Data Analyst, Reliability Assessment

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee data management, infrastructure, and workflows for teams responsible for evaluating the reliability of the current and planned North American Bulk Power System.
• Create data requests and ensure the timely gathering of reliability data from NERC registered entities to aid in identifying electric reliability risks in NERC assessments.
• Formulate, execute, and oversee strategies, methodologies, and processes to enhance data quality and minimize the likelihood of data errors, adhering to best practices in data management.
• Collaborate with members of the reliability assessment team to analyze and interpret collected data related to electric generation, load, transmission, and natural gas.
• Assist in transforming complex data into visual representations for inclusion in NERC reliability assessment products.
• Work alongside NERC and ERO Enterprise subject matter experts to enhance compatibility and interoperability of various reliability data systems on collaborative projects.
• Utilize existing datasets containing information on generation, load, transmission, and natural gas supply to supplement NERC’s collected data for trend analysis and identification of emerging risks to electric reliability.
• Proactively identify and recommend solutions for technical analysis and data challenges.
• Acquire a working knowledge of the fundamentals surrounding NERC Reliability Assessments.
• Develop, implement, and follow policies, procedures, and processes for data collection, storage, protection, and authorized sharing.
• Facilitate internal coordination with the Performance Analysis, Event Analysis, Engineering, Standards, and Compliance teams as necessary.
• Carry out additional duties as assigned.
• Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Economics, Statistics, Engineering, Business Intelligence, or a related field of study or equivalent training and experience.
• Prior experience in the electric industry or with an organization engaged in energy regulation, monitoring, or analysis.
• Knowledge of publicly available historical energy datasets (EIA, DOE, FERC, Natural Gas Pipeline Electronic Bulletin Boards (EBBs), etc.) as well as relevant proprietary datasets.
• Intermediate-level proficiency in computer programming and applications such as Python, Microsoft SQL Server, and Excel (e.g., Macro, VBA, PowerPivot).
• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Strong critical thinking and analytical abilities, with keen attention to detail.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within teams while managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
• An advanced degree and professional certifications or credentials are preferred.
• Familiarity with the roles and responsibilities of North American bulk power system owners and operators is preferred.
• Proficient in writing for both technical and general audiences is preferred.
