This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• Work in collaboration with the Oncology Data Curation team and various cross-functional partners to create data structures in both JSON and relational formats that capture the intricacies of oncology testing data.
• Analyze oncology diagnostic test results to accurately align them with enterprise data models.
• Create mappings between clinical test outcomes and the structures of enterprise data warehouses to facilitate large-scale data integration.
• Implement and uphold clinical data standards, including ICD-O-3, FHIR, mCODE, LOINC, ICD-10, UMLS, SNOMED, and other relevant standards as necessary.
• Normalize disease and biomarker data utilizing controlled biomedical vocabularies and classifications.
• Develop and sustain biomedical ontologies to adapt to the advancing knowledge within oncology.
• Utilize natural language processing techniques to extract structured data from clinical test results.
• Curate, analyze, harmonize, and oversee extensive oncology data sets while maintaining high standards of data quality.
• Collaborate with engineering teams and engage in the entire development lifecycle, from research and prototyping to production deployment.
• Contribute to data quality, governance, and ongoing improvement initiatives across oncology data platforms.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or Biostatistics with at least 5 years of experience; or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
• At least 1 year of proven experience in bioinformatics, information integration, or knowledge modeling.
• A minimum of 1 year of experience working with and processing next-generation sequencing (NGS) datasets and databases.
• At least 1 year of experience utilizing general bioinformatics resources such as NCBI Entrez Gene, PubMed, OMIM, or ClinVar.
• Familiarity with clinical data standards like HL7 and FHIR.
• A solid understanding of cancer biology and oncology treatments.
• Experience in curating biomedical data and integrating terminologies for ontology creation.
• Background in working with relational databases and platforms such as Databricks or SAP HANA.
• Proficient in Python or Tcl scripting and SQL query development.
• Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Confluence, and version control systems (Git).
• Experience in integrating both public and proprietary biomedical information sources at scale.
• Exposure to scientific natural language processing or text-mining technologies.
• Strong attention to detail coupled with excellent organizational, analytical, and communication abilities.
• Capability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary project teams with a strong sense of accountability.
• Ability to showcase relevant research expertise through publications, presentations, software tools, or applied knowledge.
