Senior Counsel, U.S. Public Sector

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.

📋 Description

• Strategic business facilitator: Act as the primary Legal business partner for GTM, Information Security, Engineering, Product, and Compliance teams to propel the growth of Celonis' U.S. Public Sector business.

• High-Stakes Negotiations: Oversee the drafting, evaluation, and negotiation of intricate software licenses, SaaS agreements, teaming arrangements, and partner/reseller contracts for federal and SLED (State, Local, and Education) clients.

• Scale & Innovation: Develop internal policies and processes, create contract templates, and implement training programs to empower stakeholders and minimize friction in the sales process.

• Regulatory & Policy Leadership: Interpret and ensure adherence to FAR/DFARS, agency-specific supplements, and emerging data protection/privacy regulations (e.g., FedRAMP, NIST SP 800-171).

• Oversight of External Legal Advisors: Collaborate with and supervise external legal advisors, guaranteeing cost-efficient and high-quality legal services that align with company goals and standards.

• Risk Mitigation & Strategic Advisory: Proactively identify and suggest strategies to mitigate legal, financial, and regulatory risks while maintaining a solution-oriented, business-first perspective.

• Thought Leadership: Keep abreast of changes in public sector law and policy, proactively guiding the organization on navigating the evolving regulatory landscape.

⛳️ Requirements

• U.S. citizenship required.

• Native or bilingual proficiency in English.

• Over 10 years of progressively responsible legal experience in government contracting, ideally combining law firm training and in-house experience at a high-growth SaaS or cloud provider. Prior military experience is a plus.

• Thorough understanding of the public cloud domain, including hands-on experience with FedRAMP authorizations and SaaS-specific licensing models.

• Proven expertise in adhering to significant regulatory requirements within the SaaS and public cloud sectors, including but not limited to procurement, privacy, data protection, export, and technology issues.

• Outstanding interpersonal and communication abilities, with the capability to clearly articulate complex legal matters to non-legal audiences.

• Experience in supporting quota-carrying, enterprise-level sales teams.

• Ability to cultivate strong relationships with demanding internal clients and deliver creative solutions to the organization’s most intricate challenges.

• High emotional intelligence and business savvy, facilitating effective collaboration and negotiation across diverse teams and external partners.
