Senior Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Advise businesses on the legal aspects and ramifications of potential business decisions, initiatives, and payment strategies, offering legal guidance and solutions for various business and legal matters.

• Stay informed about laws and regulations related to payment services and digital innovations such as cryptocurrencies, blockchain, NFTs, and decentralized finance (DeFi), including state money transmitter laws, BSA/AML, Reg E, card network regulations; as well as PSD2, EMI/PI licensing, AMLD/AML-CFT, MiCA, and other relevant national regulations.

• Assess, summarize, and evaluate the effects of new and proposed regulations on business decisions and existing strategies.

• Prepare, review, and negotiate contracts and other documentation for new business ventures.

• Collaborate closely with business and technology teams to comprehend and fulfill key business goals, aiding them in creating attractive product and service offerings.

• Handle multiple priorities and adhere to tight deadlines.

• Provide additional legal services and counsel to the organization as required.

⛳️ Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law institution; active membership in good standing with the relevant Bar.

• Proficiency in English (for non-US candidates) at an Advanced/C1 level or higher.

• At least 5 years of legal experience.

• Proficient in using modern collaboration tools such as the Atlassian suite (Jira, Confluence), Slack, Figma, and similar platforms; capable of quickly adapting to new tools as necessary.

• Understanding of general corporate law, financial services law, and regulations (including e-money institution (EMI) and payment institution (PI) licensing, PSD2, AMLD/AML-CFT regulations, and GDPR).

• Exceptional legal research, oral, and written communication abilities.

• Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively, identifying issues, prioritizing tasks, and effectively managing multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.

• A keen interest in decentralized finance (DeFi), cryptocurrency, and blockchain technology, with familiarity with MiCA (Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation) and a strong desire to learn more about the sector.
