Senior Content Strategist – Contract

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Conduct interviews with stakeholders to outline workflows, ownership, authoring experiences, and governance.

• Lead discovery workshops to establish requirements and provide structure to intricate content environments.

• Review content portfolios for organization, potential for reuse, and quality assurance.

• Develop channel-agnostic content models (including types, fields, relationships, and taxonomies) and convert them into CMS implementation specifications.

• Outline migration strategies from legacy systems to new platforms.

• Record risks, dependencies, and critical decisions.

• Propose governance frameworks to ensure sustainable content operations.

• Remain involved during the build phase as the content-accountable reviewer: addressing inquiries, conducting quality assurance against the model, and making adjustments as necessary.

• Assist in content design: UX writing, component patterns, and editorial guidance.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of practical content strategy experience, with a minimum of 3 years in client-facing roles within an agency or consultancy.

• Proven history of delivering content models (including types, fields, relationships, and taxonomies) for production CMS implementations.

• Experience in production environments with at least one headless or composable CMS (such as Sanity, Contentful, Contentstack, or similar).

• Skilled in facilitating discovery workshops and stakeholder interviews with senior client representatives (Director level and above).

• Capability to translate business needs into technical content specifications suitable for engineering teams.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.

• Comfort in working independently within a distributed team across various time zones.

• A portfolio or case studies demonstrating content audits, content models, or governance frameworks.
