Senior Consultant – Transmission Planning

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Lead and conduct power system modeling and validation assessments to ensure compliance with NERC standards.

• Create, verify, and submit steady-state, dynamic, short-circuit, and related model data.

• Coordinate controls and protection for generating units or inverter-based resources.

• Develop, review, and validate models for synchronous generators, inverter-based resources, and their associated controls.

• Execute generator model validation testing utilizing disturbance data, staged testing results, and simulation benchmarking.

• Conduct protection-related studies focusing on relay coordination, equipment duty, and PRC compliance.

• Review and prepare technical documentation, compliance reports, and model submissions for utilities, ISOs/RTOs, and regulatory audits.

• Provide technical leadership and conduct peer reviews for junior engineers.

• Directly engage with clients to clarify compliance requirements, study findings, and mitigation strategies.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.

• 5 years of experience in grid planning.

• 3 years of relevant experience in North America.

• In-depth knowledge of NERC reliability standards, especially MOD-025/026/027/032 and PRC-019/024/025/026.

• Extensive experience with PSSE, PSLF, and/or TSAT for steady-state and dynamic modeling and analysis.

• Proven experience in developing and validating generator, excitation systems, governor, plant controllers, and IBR models.

• Familiarity with short-circuit and protection studies, including concepts of relay loadability and coordination.

• Experience using ASPEN OneLiner and/or SIEMENS CAPE for short-circuit and protection-related modeling and analysis.

• Knowledge of EMT modeling with PSCAD for protection, control interaction, or IBR-focused studies.

• Ability to analyze field data, relay settings, and test results for model validation and compliance evaluations.

• Experience with Python or similar scripting tools for automating studies and processing data.

• Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills, especially for compliance documentation.
