This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Support Current Energy Group’s (CEG) consulting practice in implementing client projects, concentrating on the economics and policy analysis of regulated natural gas utilities.
• Areas of expertise may encompass gas rate cases, regulation of gas utilities, consumer issues, gas supply agreements, building decarbonization, and rate design and cost of service.
• Engage in critical thinking regarding the economic and policy incentives for gas and electric utilities to safeguard ratepayer interests, manage costs, foster equitable outcomes, and decrease greenhouse gas emissions.
• Perform qualitative or quantitative analyses to comprehend the economics of various strategies and business models within different retail and wholesale markets.
• Assess utility plans and proposals aimed at achieving state climate objectives, particularly in Future of Gas, Gas Integrated Resource Plan, and Clean Heat Plan proceedings.
• Examine gas utility cost-of-service studies to determine how costs are distributed among customer classes and evaluate the fairness and regulatory integrity of the proposed methodologies.
• Review and interpret comments or testimonies submitted during regulatory processes and construct arguments backed by evidence to either support or counter the issues raised.
• Prepare discovery requests directed at utilities and other stakeholders in regulatory proceedings to investigate their proposals and uncover data and information necessary for informed recommendations and critiques.
• Compose sections of testimony and comments for use in regulatory proceedings before public utility commissions.
• Conduct research on policies, regulations, and tariffs; summarize findings through memos or presentations; and convey research outcomes to both internal and external audiences with varying degrees of technical understanding.
• Assist in preparing senior team members for client meetings and presentations.
• Collaborate with team members to outline and draft proposals for clients and respond to client inquiries.
• Consultant: 2 – 3 years of relevant industry experience, ideally in energy economics or electric or gas utility regulation, or possess an advanced degree in energy and environmental policy, economics, engineering, or a related discipline.
• Senior Consultant: 4 - 6 years of industry experience in energy economics or policy, or hold an advanced degree in energy and environmental policy, economics, engineering, or a pertinent field.
• Exceptional quantitative skills and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with a keen attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication capabilities, with an aptitude for effective collaboration across multiple teams.
• Background or experience in technical or legal writing and research is advantageous.
• Experience in drafting discovery requests and expert testimonies is preferred.
