Senior Compiler Engineer – Infrastructure

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Reconcile and align downstream compiler codebases with open-source repositories, including restructuring, refactoring, and upstreaming internal modifications as appropriate.

• Spearhead initiatives to reorganize, merge, or phase out internal code to minimize divergence from upstream open-source projects.

• Design and develop infrastructure, tools, and developer workflows that enhance productivity, correctness, and maintainability for internal compiler engineers.

• Create automation and developer tools to assist with rebasing, patch management, validation, and extensive refactoring.

• Investigate and implement AI-assisted tools to optimize developer workflows, focusing on code navigation, change analysis, refactoring support, testing, and review efficiency.

• Collaborate with compiler developers, architecture teams, and CI/test infrastructure teams to ensure changes are scalable across geographically dispersed organizations.

• Act as a technical liaison between internal compiler development and open-source ecosystems, aiding in the development of long-term alignment strategies.

⛳️ Requirements

• B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

• Familiarity with open-source compiler frameworks.

• Strong hands-on C++ programming capabilities.

• Over 3 years of experience working with large, long-lived codebases, including refactoring and restructuring initiatives.

• Comprehensive understanding of compiler internals, including intermediate representations (IRs), passes, build systems, and toolchains.

• Knowledge of source-control-intensive workflows (e.g., downstream versus upstream repositories, patch queues, rebasing techniques).

• Strong software engineering principles with a focus on creating robust, maintainable developer infrastructure.

• Effective communication and documentation skills; ability to work collaboratively across teams and time zones.
