This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.
• Create and present engaging, audience-focused messaging to primary stakeholders: counselors, members, and students.
• Accountable for the planning, writing, and editing of newsletters, announcements, and various communications that inform, engage, and motivate audiences.
• Simplify complex information into clear, accessible, and inspiring messages designed for a variety of audiences.
• Applicants must reside in the United States.
• Must be willing to travel for the biannual Common App Retreat.
• 4-6 years of relevant experience required.
• Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, English, marketing, or a related field, or a comparable combination of education and experience.
• Proven experience in producing communications tailored to specific audiences (e.g., newsletters, campaign emails, or announcements).
• Familiarity with email marketing platforms, CRM systems, or digital publishing tools is essential.
• Collaborative approach with the ability to translate intricate ideas into compelling narratives.
• Advanced skills in Writing & Narrative Development: Expertise in audience-centered storytelling that conveys complex organizational priorities, higher education policy, or technical updates in a clear and motivating manner.
• Editorial Ownership & Strategy Refinement: Capability to manage editorial calendars and ensure messaging consistency across various platforms, maintaining alignment with the established brand voice and tone.
• Critical Thinking & Pattern Recognition: Skill in analyzing engagement metrics and audience feedback to identify communication gaps and suggest innovative content optimization solutions.
• Complex Project Coordination: Outstanding organizational abilities to handle multiple high-pressure deadlines while independently addressing the needs of diverse internal and external stakeholders.
• Technical Proficiency in Communications Tools: Advanced proficiency in using email marketing platforms, CRM systems, and digital publishing tools for creating and distributing audience-specific communications.
• Collaboration & Peer Guidance: Capacity to work effectively in a team-oriented atmosphere and provide guidance or peer-review support to ensure consistent messaging across the department.
• Adaptability: Ability to modify messaging and priorities in response to evolving organizational needs or feedback.
• Experience with project planning and management is required.
• Previous experience in a fast-paced work environment, including but not limited to state or federal government, and communications agency experience.
• Understanding of key issues in higher education.
• Prior experience in the Higher Education sector.
• Background in non-profit organizations, educational institutions, or education technology.
• Experience in government affairs and/or public policy is a plus.
