This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +45 more states.
• Take ownership and lead the strategy for the CMDB data model, encompassing CI classes, relationships, and hierarchical service models (e.g., CSDM).
• Develop and uphold standards for CI class utilization, naming conventions, attributes, and relationship patterns across both on-premises and cloud environments.
• Convert business and technical requirements into CMDB design artifacts, such as models, diagrams, and documentation.
• Manage and sustain the enterprise CMDB platform (e.g., ServiceNow), including CI lifecycle standards (creation, updates, retirement) and core configuration.
• Act as the subject matter expert for CMDB discovery.
• Oversee CMDB Discovery operations, ensuring the health of discovery jobs.
• Define and execute integration patterns (APIs, imports, event-driven updates) between the CMDB and external systems.
• Create and maintain Service Mapping to accurately depict business services and their dependencies on underlying CIs and infrastructure.
• Collaborate with DevOps teams to integrate CI/CD and application visibility into the CMDB where applicable.
• Suggest and implement automation opportunities to enhance CMDB data currency, coverage, and operational efficiency.
• Validate discovered data to ensure CI data accuracy and integrity by eliminating duplicates, resolving discrepancies, and maintaining consistency across sources.
• Perform regular audits of data quality and execute remediation efforts.
• Develop and maintain dashboards and reports to track CMDB health, coverage, and quality trends.
• Establish and enforce CMDB governance policies, standards, CI ownership and stewardship models, and CI lifecycle management processes.
• Support internal controls, audits, and regulatory/compliance requirements (e.g., SOX, PCI) pertaining to CMDB data, discovery, and service mapping.
• Align CMDB processes and data with Incident, Problem, Change, Request, and Event Management workflows.
• Provide subject matter expert guidance on utilizing CMDB data in service maps, impact analysis, risk assessments, change planning, and CAB discussions.
• Minimum requirement: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Preferred: ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist – Discovery or CMDB.
• ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) certification.
• Over 7 years of experience with IT discovery tools and CMDB platforms.
• More than 7 years of experience with ServiceNow Discovery, ITSM, and CMDB platforms.
• At least 7 years of experience with Service Mapping, scripting, and automation using JavaScript (for ServiceNow scripting), as well as PowerShell, Python, or Shell scripting (for custom probes/sensors or integrations).
• Strong understanding of networking protocols (e.g., SNMP, WMI, SSH, HTTP/S).
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V).
• Scripting experience (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash) for automation and troubleshooting.
• Strong design and engineering background in ServiceNow CMDB, Discovery, and Service Mapping implementation and optimization.
• Comprehensive understanding of network topologies, firewalls, and subnets.
• Experience with Application Integration REST/SOAP APIs and MID Server configuration and troubleshooting.
• Ability to create and modify Discovery probes, patterns, and sensors.
• Knowledge of Windows and Linux/Unix Servers, Network Appliances, Enterprise Applications, Databases, Web Servers, and Cloud platforms.
• Familiarity with various data sources for CMDB CI ingestion (e.g., SCCM, Tanium, Intune, Discovery, Event Management, etc.), including configuration and troubleshooting.
• Understanding of Identification & Reconciliation (IRE) rules.
• Experience in creating custom CI classifications.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
