Senior Cloud Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.

📋 Description

• Create cutting-edge tools that empower both scientists and students to discover, transform, update, and enhance the quality of Earth Science data, aimed at addressing a variety of environmental and socio-economic challenges.

• Operate within a dynamic Agile development setting, engaging in operations, design, and development for the NASA Earthdata Cloud.

• Ensure compliance with operational agreements and policies (including response times), adherence to program and NASA standards and requirements (including Section 508 compliance), utilization of industry best practices for automation and scalability of assets, and the implementation of issue detection and alert systems.


⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technical discipline.

• A minimum of 6 years of engineering experience.

• Familiarity with application hosting, with at least 5 years of experience utilizing Cloud Services in an Infrastructure as a Service (IAAS) or Platform as a Service (PAAS) setting.

• Extensive knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS), encompassing networking and serverless services like Lambda and Step Functions.

• 5-7 years of programming/scripting experience in C++, BASH, Python, Java, and JavaScript, particularly within an Agile development framework.

• Experience in supporting infrastructures and operations using DevOps automation tools such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible, and Terraform.

• Proficient with the core suite of AWS services pertinent to DevOps, with particular depth in those extensively utilized for providing DevOps automation solutions, including Management and Deployment services like Terraform and IAM.

• A strong inclination towards automating processes, developing software tools, and crafting infrastructure-as-code solutions within a DevOps environment.

• Experience in designing and building data management systems.

• Capability to assess existing cloud infrastructure and define, plan, communicate, and execute improvement strategies.

• Proficient in effectively collaborating and communicating with customers, all levels of management, and individual contributors within the team.

• Experience in mentoring team members on leveraging AWS cloud services for optimal design.
