Senior Backend Engineer – Ruby on Rails

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Design the foundational structure of our Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF) module.

• Develop backend architecture and domain models for the CCF module, focusing on Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, along with emission factor matching, calculation engines, and reporting workflows.

• Enhance scalability and performance for data-intensive workflows managing millions of activity data points across intricate customer organizations.

• Set the technical direction for the Rails codebase, guiding its long-term evolution in terms of service boundaries, data models, and API surfaces.

• Ensure technical excellence within the squad by maintaining clean code, a deliberate test pyramid, thoughtful API design, and disciplined management of technical debt.

• Foster knowledge sharing and maintain code quality through reviews, collaborative coding, and architectural discussions that elevate the skills of everyone involved.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience in backend software development, with proven expertise in Ruby on Rails.

• Mastery of Ruby on Rails.

• Extensive experience with Postgres at scale, including schema design, query optimization, indexing strategies, and handling migrations on live data.

• Demonstrated ability to design and enhance backend systems in data-heavy production settings.

• Proficient in English with clear written and verbal communication skills (German is an advantage).

• Reside in the EU (CET ±1) with a valid work permit.
