Senior Backend Engineer, Python, FastAPI

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Create and develop scalable backend services utilizing Python and FastAPI.

• Construct dependable document-processing pipelines capable of managing large PDFs (over 200 pages).

• Execute AI-driven document classification workflows using taxonomy-based logic and confidence scoring.

• Design and uphold document taxonomies, classification schemas, and structured labeling systems.

• Facilitate multi-page document assembly employing taxonomy-driven rules and page-level signals.

• Integrate LLM APIs for document analysis and classification workflows, preferably the GPT-4 Vision API.

• Develop robust asynchronous processing systems featuring queues, background workers, retry logic, and task orchestration.

• Implement audit trails, data lineage tracking, taxonomy versioning, and rationale mechanisms for classification.

• Create workflows for exception handling and fallback, including pathways for 'needs review' classifications.

• Enhance backend performance, infrastructure utilization, and costs associated with AI inference.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to facilitate compliance-oriented document workflows and business operations.

• Assist in loan-processing workflows by classifying, validating, and assembling borrower documents such as KYC, income proofs, bank statements, and agreements.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8–10 years of extensive hands-on experience in backend development.

• Proficiency in Python and the FastAPI framework.

• Significant experience with PDF processing libraries such as PyPDF2, pdf2image, or other similar tools.

• Experience with the integration of LLM APIs for document classification and analysis workflows.

• Practical experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including Cloud Storage, Firestore, and Cloud Tasks.

• Strong grasp of asynchronous job patterns, including queues, background workers, and retry mechanisms.

• Experience in designing scalable systems with a keen focus on error handling, data lineage, audit trails, and workflow reliability.

• Experience with OCR and document-processing systems.

• Practical experience in designing or managing document taxonomies, classification schemas, structured labeling systems, confidence thresholds, and rules-based validation systems.

• Comprehensive understanding of backend architecture, performance optimization, and system scalability.

• Exceptional analytical, debugging, and problem-solving abilities.
