Senior Backend Engineer – Payments Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Latin America.

📋 Description

• Development of Node.js backend services and REST APIs that are versioned, contract-stable, and resilient.

• Comprehensive ACH payment workflows from start to finish, including debits, credits, retries, failure management, virtual account ledgering, and reconciliation.

• Implementation of event-driven services utilizing AWS SQS and webhooks to ensure reliable asynchronous processing.

• Creation of PostgreSQL schemas that maintain integrity for intricate financial workflows, even in failure scenarios.

• Contributions to CI/CD processes and test coverage that instill genuine confidence in the team to deliver software.

• Development of internal React dashboards and operational tools as necessary.

• Crafting design documentation, deployment runbooks, and scalability notes that reflect your pride in the work, not just tasks assigned to you.

• Occasional direct interaction with customers to support integrations, troubleshoot live workflows, and showcase platform capabilities—comfortably representing the product beyond the codebase.

⛳️ Requirements

• 6–7 years of engineering experience with a strong emphasis on backend development.

• Proven experience in production Node.js and REST API design.

• Strong PostgreSQL knowledge, including schema design, query optimization, and data integrity.

• Familiarity with AWS services such as Lambda, RDS, SQS, API Gateway, and Secrets Manager.

• Experience with OpenAPI / Swagger documentation.

• Background in event-driven systems, including queues, webhooks, and retry/failure logic.

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.

• Excellent cross-functional communication skills—comfortable collaborating directly with Product, QA, DevOps, and business stakeholders.

• Agile practitioner—familiar with sprint planning, backlog grooming, and code reviews as part of your routine.

• End-to-end ownership mentality—you take projects through to production without handing them off.
