Senior Backend Engineer – Machine Learning Infrastructure

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and manage high-load distributed backend services that support the company’s ML infrastructure.

• Take full ownership of core ML services and associated data pipelines from design and implementation to deployment, observability, and ongoing improvement.

• Collaborate with ML and product teams to comprehend their requirements and transform them into dependable, reusable platform capabilities.

• Assess trade-offs, make informed technical decisions, design effectively, and take responsibility for outcomes.

• Assume accountability for the work produced by you and your team.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in backend or platform engineering.

• In-depth knowledge of Python.

• Practical experience in developing on public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) or managing Kubernetes environments.

• Proven track record in designing and building distributed, high-load services and APIs.

• Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and their respective trade-offs.

• A design-oriented engineering mindset with the capability to utilize modern AI tools while prioritizing system design.

• Proactive ownership in problem-solving and accountability for results.

• Friendly demeanor with a willingness to assist teammates and others.

• Experience with Rust or C/C++/Go is a significant advantage.

• Background in developing or contributing to ML platforms or ML infrastructure is a considerable plus.

• Familiarity with setting up and operating vector databases is a significant advantage.

• Experience with model serving/inference infrastructure, including LLMs.

• Proficient with Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform or similar.

• Eligibility to work as an independent contractor in your current country of residence.

• Base salary: $80k–$120k USD.
