Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain.

📋 Description

• Develop and manage integrations that facilitate bidirectional data transfer between clients' ERP systems and Vic.ai.

• Create backend services utilizing TypeScript/Node.js (including HTTP APIs, queue-based workers, and PostgreSQL).

• Design integrations with third-party APIs (REST, SOAP, OData, OAuth2) featuring explicit, typed contracts.

• Ensure jobs are idempotent and replay-safe, incorporating retries, rate limiting, dead-lettering, and correlation/audit logging.

• Take ownership of services from development to production, managing deployment on AWS, monitoring, and issue resolution within defined SLAs.

• Contribute to AI-assisted tools that enhance customer onboarding processes.

• Provide support for related backend areas as necessary (including Public API and core services in Elixir/Phoenix, as well as Python services).

• Participate in architectural decisions and contribute to long-term platform scalability.

• Identify, troubleshoot, escalate, and resolve issues connected to performance, accuracy, and system stability.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline (preferred).

• Over 5 years of experience in building and managing production backend systems, primarily in TypeScript/Node.js, Elixir/Phoenix, and Python. Strong backend engineers from other stacks who are enthusiastic about transitioning to TypeScript are encouraged to apply.

• Experience in developing on top of LLMs.

• Familiarity with integrating third-party APIs (REST, SOAP, OData, OAuth2, webhooks).

• Strong understanding of queue-based and distributed systems: idempotency, retries, dead-lettering, and backpressure.

• Demonstrated experience in transitioning systems from development to production and managing them according to best practices.

• Comprehensive knowledge of performance monitoring, logging, observability, and operational reliability.

• Experience in scaling and optimizing relational databases.

• Awareness of IT security principles with proven adherence to secure development practices.

• Ability to work autonomously, take ownership, and function effectively in a dynamic environment.
