Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.

📋 Description

• Develop new backend functionalities emphasizing scalability, performance, and dependability.

• Sustain, enhance, and refine current services and infrastructure.

• Design, deploy, and manage backend services within AWS, Cloudflare, and various other environments.

• Implement and advance monitoring and observability using platforms such as Sentry, OpenTelemetry (OTel), along with logging, alerting, and similar tools.

• Analyze and troubleshoot production issues across distributed systems.

• Write clean, maintainable code that adheres to SOLID principles, system design standards, and best practices for backend development.

• Lead investigations into incidents, conduct root cause analyses, and enhance system reliability.

• Contribute to architectural decisions, documentation, and infrastructure strategy.

• Collaborate with a strong emphasis on communication, ownership, and timely delivery.

⛳️ Requirements

• In-depth knowledge of distributed systems, system design, and backend architecture.

• Solid understanding of database fundamentals, including indexing, consistency, replication, transactions, and the trade-offs of storage.

• Proven capability to design scalable and resilient systems.

• Proficiency in Node.js backend development.

• Strong understanding of software engineering principles, particularly SOLID.

• Experience in debugging complex issues within production environments.

• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS) and deployment of backend services.

• Experience in implementing monitoring and observability solutions using tools like Sentry and OpenTelemetry (OTel), covering aspects such as tracing, logging, and alerting.

• High standards for code quality, reliability, and effective communication.

• Extensive knowledge of Redis, encompassing caching, pub/sub, queues, replication, persistence, and performance optimization.

• Strong expertise with AWS services, including compute, serverless, networking, storage, security, and infrastructure-as-code.

• Experience with Cloudflare Workers, edge routing, caching, and security features.

• Familiarity with Sentry performance monitoring and OpenTelemetry instrumentation at scale.

• Comfortable working within ±2 hours of UK time zone.
