This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain.
• Create and develop backend services using Go, including APIs, SDKs, and event-driven systems that will influence Livestorm's evolution.
• Take ownership of architectural decisions: establish service boundaries, data models, API contracts, and patterns that the entire organization will use.
• Collaborate closely with Product Managers and Designers to comprehend requirements, investigate solution alternatives, and ensure that technical implementations meet user needs and align with the product vision.
• Enhance the ergonomics of APIs and SDKs: you prioritize making the platform enjoyable for other engineers to work with, rather than merely functional.
• Lead technical initiatives across teams and align engineering and product stakeholders on common objectives.
• Assist in making build-vs-buy decisions regarding infrastructure, opting for pragmatic solutions over rigid approaches.
• Provide mentorship and technical direction to fellow engineers through design reviews, pair programming, and constructive feedback.
• Advocate for best practices in testing, observability, CI/CD, and backend reliability.
• Document technical designs, processes, and system architecture comprehensively.
• Engage in strategic planning and decision-making concerning Livestorm's technical trajectory.
• Navigate uncertainty confidently: articulate the "how" when requirements are still being clarified, make informed bets, and iterate as necessary.
• Extensive backend engineering proficiency with a proven history of designing scalable systems.
• Go is the primary language used; whether it's already familiar to you or you're a proficient backend engineer eager to master it, you have the capability to quickly adapt.
• Strong skills in API design: REST, gRPC, GraphQL; you have clear preferences regarding their appropriate usage and how to craft APIs that developers appreciate.
• Proficient in AI tooling and promotes its usage within the team to enhance both engineering speed and quality.
• Experience in designing event-driven architectures, distributed systems, or platform/infrastructure layers utilized by other engineering teams.
• Solid understanding of data validation, SQL/NoSQL databases, and messaging systems such as Kafka.
• Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• A product-oriented mindset with a strong sense of agency: you actively engage with user feedback, question "why," and ensure that technical outcomes address real challenges without needing prompts.
• Significant experience in performance engineering, scalability, and reliability at the backend level.
• Effective communication skills, capable of discussing technical trade-offs with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Preferred: Experience in a remote-first, distributed engineering environment.
• Prior experience in developing developer platforms, SDKs, or composable API layers utilized by other teams.
• Experience with large-scale migration strategies (like strangler fig or parallel-run) transitioning from a monolith to a new architecture without disruptions.
• Knowledge of multi-tenancy and SaaS platform patterns: tenant isolation, rate limiting, and platform-level security.
• Familiarity with real-time systems (WebRTC, media pipelines, event streaming).
• Open-source mindset: experience in creating solutions for external developers with a focus on developer experience, documentation, and API versioning discipline.
• Understanding of monitoring, SLOs, and backend observability practices.
• Knowledge in authentication and authorization mechanisms.
• Advanced knowledge of Kubernetes or relevant infrastructure experience.
• 100% remote work with a flexible work-from-anywhere policy.
• Biannual offsite events.
• Annual team-building activities.
