Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ireland.

📋 Description

• Create, deploy, and oversee the backend for real-time communication to facilitate live audio interactions.

• Coordinate comprehensive sessions between end users and backend AI services.

• Incorporate Azure Speech services (STT/TTS) and Azure OpenAI (LLMs) into real-time workflows.

• Design and sustain REST and WebSocket APIs utilized by mobile and web frontends.

• Manage session states, participant matching, reconnections, and failure recovery, acting as the “traffic controller” for calls.

• Guarantee a low-latency, highly available, and scalable infrastructure through containerized microservices.

• Construct backend logic to oversee the call lifecycle (initiating and concluding sessions).

• Match participants and monitor call states.

• Implement mechanisms for reconnection and failure handling.

• Serve as the system’s “traffic controller” for real-time media sessions.

• Provide support for microservices architecture and API scaling.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in backend engineering.

• Strong foundation in distributed systems.

• Understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/UDP, NAT, firewalls).

• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (Azure preferred, though AWS/GCP experience is acceptable).

• Demonstrated experience with WebRTC or comparable real-time systems (e.g., SIP, RTMP, low-latency streaming).

• Experience in integrating AI/LLM services into production backends.

• Capacity to work independently and mentor junior engineers as necessary.

• In-depth knowledge of WebRTC connectivity (NAT traversal, firewalls, corporate networks).

• Experience with TURN server deployment and management for media relaying.

• Proficiency in one or more of the following: Node.js, Python, .NET.

• Ability to manage audio routing, recording, and optional voice transformations.

• Practical experience with media servers such as Janus, Kurento, or mediasoup.
