Senior Backend Engineer – Architecture, Cloud

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Technology Leadership: Spearhead architectural decisions, conduct code reviews, and establish engineering standards for the team.

• Backend Development: Design, develop, and sustain backend services and APIs at scale.

• End-to-End Collaboration: Collaborate with frontend engineers to architect comprehensive web applications.

• Cloud Ownership: Take responsibility for cloud deployment, monitoring, and the operational reliability of services.

• Quality Standards: Ensure adherence to code quality, testing, documentation, and DevOps best practices across the team.

• Product Shaping: Engage in cross-functional discussions with product managers and R&D engineers to influence the product roadmap.

⛳️ Requirements

• Backend Experience: Over 5 years of professional experience in backend or fullstack web application development.

• Python Proficiency: Strong expertise in Python, preferably with FastAPI experience; proficiency in other backend languages (Java, Node.js, C#, Go) is also appreciated.

• API Design: Demonstrated experience in designing and building RESTful APIs at scale.

• Database Skills: Robust understanding of relational databases and data modeling (e.g., PostgreSQL).

• Cloud Platforms: Professional experience in managing AWS, GCP, or Azure utilizing Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).

• CI/CD & Containers: Familiarity with containerization and CI/CD workflows (Docker, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar).

• Communication: Excellent communication skills and the ability to thrive in distributed, remote team environments.

• Desirable (but not required): Capacity to lead or mentor a small engineering team.

• Experience with Kubernetes or managed container platforms.

• Experience with identity providers and authentication workflows (Keycloak, OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML).

• Experience with WebSockets or real-time communication patterns.

• Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, Sentry).

• Knowledge of frontend technologies (React, TypeScript).

• Experience in operating production systems or participating in on-call rotations.
