Senior Back End Engineer – Integrations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain.

📋 Description

• Navigate seamlessly across various programming languages and ecosystems that extend beyond our primary stack (not limited to Python or Django) to interpret, modify, and enhance integration-specific code such as ERP scripting frameworks (e.g., SuiteScript), native app extensions for accounting and finance platforms, and third-party vendor SDKs.

• Engage confidently with a diverse array of authentication and identity flows, including OAuth 2.0 / OIDC, SSO providers (Microsoft Entra ID, Okta, Google Workspace), SAML, and service-to-service authentication. Be adept at managing different token types (access, refresh, JWT, API keys), handling token lifecycles, and implementing secure communication protocols (TLS/HTTPS, signed requests, secret management) across all integrations.

• Spearhead the design and development of Abacum's integrations platform for the ingestion, normalization, and annotation of business data.

• Create and scale bidirectional integrations with billing, accounting, ERP, commerce, and HRIS platforms.

• Design low-code/no-code tools (e.g., connector builder, declarative DSLs, LLM-assisted workflows), and make informed decisions on integration strategies (unified API, in-house, contractors) to expedite integration development and maintenance.

• Guarantee that integrations are secure, resilient, and performant at scale, accommodating high-volume financial and transactional data.

• Collaborate intimately with product, design, financial experts, and customers to transform complex, unclear workflows into user-friendly software experiences.

• Set technical standards and steer architecture for integrations and data-intensive systems.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience, with at least 2+ years in integration-focused roles.

• Robust background in developing integrations for data-intensive use cases.

• Practical expertise in Python and contemporary backend systems.

• Experience in architecting or working on integrations platforms, data platforms, or similar large-scale API ecosystems.

• Curiosity and determination in addressing ambiguous, high-stakes technical challenges such as low-code builder design, LLM-assisted workflows, and data enrichment.

• Pragmatic judgment: understanding when to swiftly deliver versus when to invest in foundational architecture.
