Senior Associate, Investment Accounting

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Assist in the accounting close process, which includes the preparation of journal entries and relevant balance sheet reconciliations for both GAAP and STAT accounting methods.

• Conduct in-depth analytical reviews of investment income, yields, fair value fluctuations, and realized/unrealized gains and losses.

• Aid in the quarterly and annual statutory and GAAP investment disclosures and related footnotes.

• Support the implementation and onboarding of new investment portfolios associated with block acquisitions.

• Assist with regulatory filings and ad hoc requests in line with Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) requirements.

• Execute internal control procedures across a varied asset class mix, including derivatives, fixed income securities, equities, commercial mortgage loans, private equity, hedge funds, and real estate.

• Provide comprehensive investment data for Economic Balance Sheet calculations and Bermuda reporting.

• Collaborate with Fortitude Re’s investment accounting platform to ensure data completeness and accuracy.

• Monitor, investigate, and resolve issues concerning investment suspense account balances.

• Ensure adherence to SOX and internal control frameworks, including documentation and walkthrough support.

• Identify control deficiencies and propose enhancements to reduce operational and financial reporting risks.

• Conduct variance analysis and investigative procedures on investment balances and income patterns.

• Coordinate with internal and external audit teams to furnish requested information and evidence of internal control operations.

• Oversee the private equity operations process, which entails extracting relevant financial data from fund capital account statements, completing system upload templates, and executing related internal control procedures.

• Promote ongoing improvement initiatives within the investment close cycle.

• Engage in system enhancements, UAT testing, and automation implementation projects.

• Create and maintain desktop procedures and process documentation.

• Utilize AI-enabled tools and advanced analytics to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of securities accounting processes, encompassing reconciliations, variance analysis, close activities, and reporting.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's or Graduate degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA designation preferred.

• At least 5 years of relevant experience in the reinsurance industry or financial services sector.

• Experience in managing large data volumes, with a strong background in general ledger and/or analytical tool systems.

• Solid understanding of GAAP and STAT investment accounting principles.

• Knowledge of derivative accounting principles (ASC 815) and familiarity with derivative products.

• Preferred familiarity with reinsurance structures and their investment implications.

• Desired experience with Power Query, SQL, or similar data query/transformation tools.

• Experience with Clearwater investment accounting platform is a plus.

• Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal abilities.

• Proven capability to manage multiple deliverables while meeting deadlines.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel.
