This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead the development of the just-in-time adaptive intervention design system in collaboration with the AI Team.
• Design and maintain behavioral taxonomies, which encompass behavioral targets, barrier profiles, BCT mappings, intervention modalities, prompts, nudges, and delivery constraints.
• Convert BCTTv1, COM-B, and behavior-change evidence into machine-readable schemas and operational decision rules.
• Review and validate behavioral logic, algorithms, decision-rule performance, and the quality of evidence.
• Create the statistical and causal framework for the Learning Loop, which includes attribution, micro-randomization, off-policy evaluation, and individual-level effect estimation.
• Define engineering instrumentation, event logging, and data infrastructure needs.
• Design adaptive experiments utilizing Multi-Arm Bandits, Micro-Randomized Trials, and contextual exploration.
• Develop analytical infrastructure for N-of-1 self-experiments.
• Provide guidance on A/B testing, factorial designs, power, sample size, and randomization.
• Collaborate with AI/ML Engineers on the architecture for recommendation and intervention systems.
• Offer advice on measurement design, study methodology, and intervention evaluation.
• Work together with the Behavioral Analyst and act as an internal expert in BeSci methodology.
• A PhD in Behavioral Science, Health Psychology, Behavioral Medicine, Data Science, Machine Learning, or a closely related field is essential.
• Advanced training or practical experience in causal inference, reinforcement learning, or a related quantitative discipline is necessary.
• A strong publication record that integrates behavior-change theory with closed-loop system design is required.
• A minimum of 5 years in a senior behavioral science position that combines intervention design or taxonomy/framework development with causal-inference or quantitative research.
• Deep expertise in BCTTv1, COM-B, and associated behavior-change models.
• Proven expertise in causal inference, off-policy evaluation, and adaptive trial designs.
• Hands-on experience with Micro-Randomized Trials, Multi-Arm Bandits, and Reinforcement Learning algorithms.
• Experience in N-of-1 experimental designs, sequential decision-making, and within-person inference.
• Comfort working with small-n, high-frequency behavioral data.
• Ability to translate academic rigor into actionable, sprint-compatible deliverables.
• Established ability to collaborate with engineering and ML teams on knowledge representation, taxonomy design, structured data schemas, and data instrumentation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to compose methodology specifications, taxonomy specifications, and review memos.
• Experience in health tech, behavior-change platforms, or consumer wearable/connected-device industries is strongly preferred.
