Senior Applied AI/ML Scientist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ireland.

📋 Description

• Design and implement production-ready agentic workflows.

• Take ownership of the design for LLM-enhanced content enrichments.

• Guide the technical trajectory for tool-supported LLM systems.

• Make architectural decisions regarding model application.

• Establish standards and schemas for structured prompting.

• Set the benchmark for how NewsWhip assesses LLM systems.

• Define safety measures and ensure output consistency.

• Incorporate observability into every LLM feature.

• Balance model quality, latency, and cost effectively.

• Advance the embedding and semantic search framework.

• Enhance retrieval relevance.

• Collaborate with Product and UX teams.

• Facilitate technical design conversations.

• Elevate standards through code reviews and mentorship.

• Assess new models and frameworks.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 6 years of experience in building and managing production software systems.

• More than 2 years of practical experience delivering LLM-powered features in real-world applications.

• Proficient in backend engineering, with Python as a preferred language.

• Familiarity with several of the following technologies:

• Large Language Model APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, open-weight models, etc.) and transformer-based methodologies.

• Embedding models and similarity search techniques.

• Vector databases (ChromaDB, Pinecone, Weaviate, etc.).

• Prompt engineering and structured output methodologies.

• LLM evaluation frameworks and automated testing processes.

• LLMOps practices (monitoring, versioning, observability using Langfuse, Datadog, etc.).

• Proven track record of owning systems end-to-end in production, rather than just contributing.

• Experience in making and justifying architectural trade-offs (model selection, build vs. buy, latency vs. quality).

• Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical design evaluations.

• Collaboration experience with Product and UX teams on feature delivery.
