Senior Applied AI Engineer / Forward Deployed Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Minnesota.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with both business and technical stakeholders to gain insights into workflows, challenges, and success metrics.

• Convert ambiguous issues into well-defined technical solutions, designs, and delivery strategies.

• Create and develop AI-driven applications utilizing LLMs, APIs, and enterprise data systems.

• Construct production-quality backend services using Python and frameworks such as FastAPI or Flask.

• Develop and manage RAG systems, which include document ingestion and normalization, chunking, metadata and embedding strategies, as well as vector, keyword, and hybrid search, reranking, relevance tuning, source attribution, and grounding.

• Integrate AI solutions with SharePoint, Microsoft Graph, SQL databases, internal APIs, and various business applications.

• Design secure systems that adhere to access control, governance, and enterprise compliance standards.

• Develop observable, reliable, and maintainable AI workflows for production settings.

• Create evaluation frameworks for LLM systems, focusing on accuracy, groundedness, latency, completeness, and failure modes.

• Rapidly iterate through prototypes, pilots, and production releases based on user feedback.

• Work collaboratively with engineering, data, security, and product teams to ensure successful adoption and long-term sustainability.

• Make practical technology decisions across Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Search, and open-source tools.

• Document architecture, decisions, trade-offs, and operational requirements.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, applied AI, or enterprise systems.

• Extensive experience in Python development for building production-grade APIs or services.

• Practical experience with large language model applications.

• Familiarity with Azure OpenAI Service, OpenAI APIs, or similar platforms.

• Demonstrated experience in designing and constructing RAG systems.

• Strong knowledge of prompt design, grounding, context management, and limitations of LLMs.

• Experience integrating with enterprise data sources, APIs, and document systems.

• Capability to work directly with business stakeholders and translate their needs into effective solutions.

• Experience operating within secure, governed enterprise environments.

• Excellent communication, systems thinking, and problem-solving abilities.

• Ability to balance speed, usability, scalability, and maintainability.
