Senior AI Engineer – Voice

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• You will assist in defining the development and operation of voice AI within a dynamic product landscape.

• As a key Senior AI Voice Engineer, you will transform cutting-edge voice and generative AI technologies into production-ready systems that provide tangible value to users.

• Your main objective will be to sustain, enhance, and grow our phonebot platform.

• Anticipate strong technical ownership, rapid iteration, and a steadfast focus on constructing reliable voice systems that function effectively in real-world telephony scenarios.

• Design and implement production-ready generative voice AI solutions as part of our product suite.

• Create voice-based AI systems that incorporate speech technologies such as ASR/STT and TTS into conversational workflows.

• Design and refine real-time voice agent workflows, optimizing for latency, reliability, and conversational quality.

• Architect and deploy production-ready generative AI and LLM-based solutions to enhance voice experiences from start to finish.

• Establish evaluation, testing, and observability frameworks for AI systems to guarantee reliability and ongoing improvement.

• Set best practices for AI development, testing, and deployment across various products.

• Engage in hands-on AI development as a pivotal technical contributor within a small, agile team where engineers manage problems comprehensively and deliver swiftly.

• Collaborate closely with product, design, and engineering teams to weave AI capabilities into real product workflows.

• Partner with stakeholders to define and enhance user experiences across voice, telephony, and AI-driven interactions.

• Convert complex AI concepts into actionable product features and communicate them effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of software engineering experience.

• 1–2+ years of hands-on experience in developing and managing production Voice AI systems.

• Demonstrated experience in building and deploying production phone agents that manage real users and actual phone calls.

• Practical experience with at least one major voice-agent framework or provider such as LiveKit Agents, Vapi, Pipecat, Retell, Daily Bots, Bland, OpenAI Realtime, Twilio, Telnyx, Deepgram, Soniox, ElevenLabs, or Cartesia.

• Solid understanding of the entire voice pipeline, including STT, LLM orchestration, TTS, turn-taking, interruption handling, and latency optimization.

• Comprehensive knowledge of telephony concepts such as PSTN, SIP, and WebRTC.

• Experience in developing LLM-powered products from start to finish, including prompt engineering, RAG, tool/function calling, model selection, and evaluation.

• Familiarity with LLM observability and evaluation tools, as well as designing evaluation pipelines for AI systems.

• Proficient programming skills in Python and strong software engineering principles.

• Experience implementing AI systems in real-world production settings, rather than purely research or academic environments.

• Nice to Have: Familiarity with operating high-volume outbound calling systems, including concurrency management, retries, and compliance issues.

• Experience deploying OpenAI Realtime API or Gemini Live in production settings.

• Experience with voice evaluation and observability platforms or developing custom evaluation frameworks.

• Fluency or working proficiency in European languages such as German, French, Spanish, or Italian.

• Experience contributing to or engaging with voice AI communities and open-source projects.
