Senior AI Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of AI-driven features throughout their lifecycle, from initial scoping and design to requirements engineering, evaluation, deployment, and ongoing operations.

• Design, develop, and sustain cloud-native, event-driven AI applications across the entire technology stack.

• Assess, integrate, and optimize AI models for production environments, ensuring a balance of quality, latency, reliability, and cost.

• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including non-technical stakeholders, to refine requirements and align technical solutions with business goals.

• Construct and maintain resilient AI inference, evaluation, and monitoring pipelines.

• Create and execute robust, automated frameworks for evaluating AI applications.

• Analyze performance data and experimental results from AI applications, using insights to drive data-informed improvements.

• Manage and enhance production systems, taking responsibility for reliability, quality, and technical debt reduction.

• Keep abreast of advancements in AI and share knowledge to enhance team skills.

• Plan, monitor, and decompose work efficiently within an agile framework.

• Offer technical leadership, facilitate design reviews, document architectural decision records (ADRs), and assist in hiring and onboarding processes.

• Engage in on-call rotations, respond to incidents, conduct post-mortems for AI-powered systems, and help establish service level objectives (SLOs) and error budgets.

Backend: Extensive experience in designing and managing scalable, event-driven Python systems in cloud-native settings. AI: Comprehensive knowledge of cutting-edge AI models, their evaluation, integration into AI-powered features, and best practices for production. Strong theoretical and practical understanding of current AI model architecture.

• Proven experience with AI model deployment strategies, evaluation methodologies, and monitoring frameworks in live environments.

• Demonstrated expertise in owning features from inception to production.

• Strong grasp of how to integrate AI into production systems, acknowledging the challenges posed by non-deterministic behaviors.

• Solid understanding and practical application of MLOps and LLMOps best practices for AI applications.

• Familiarity and hands-on experience with leading AI service providers and their offerings.

• Working knowledge of fine-tuning techniques and their appropriate applications.

• Strong software engineering capabilities to connect AI research and concepts with robust, production-ready engineering solutions.

• Experience in breaking down complex AI objectives into clear requirements and actionable tasks.

• Experience in leveraging and enhancing agile practices and processes in an AI/ML team context, including effective requirements gathering, design, and code reviews.

• Proven track record in swiftly assessing and adopting new technologies and frameworks.

• Capable of implementing Clean Architecture and Onion Architecture principles.

• Experience in building and managing cloud-native systems, preferably on Google Cloud / Firebase, with solid foundations in DevOps and MLOps, including CI/CD, observability, and Infrastructure as Code.

• Working knowledge of AI safety and security protocols.

• Strong testing discipline throughout the technology stack.

• Experience in mentorship and technical leadership: fostering the growth of other engineers, leading design reviews, and influencing technical direction across teams.

• Familiarity with AI safety and security issues: OWASP Top 10 for LLMs, prompt injection, data exfiltration risks, content moderation, and handling of PII / GDPR.

• Strong testing discipline across all layers, including unit, integration, and contract tests for both deterministic code and AI components.

• Experience in managing production systems while on-call.
