Senior AI Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nigeria.

📋 Description

• Oversee the design, training, and enhancement of extensive language models tailored for African languages and dialects, ensuring precision and contextual relevance.

• Create innovative approaches for data pre-processing, tokenization, and embedding, focusing on low-resource and multilingual datasets.

• Implement and refine transformer-based architectures (e.g., GPT, BERT) for targeted NLP applications such as text generation, translation, and sentiment analysis.

• Develop scalable data collection, annotation, and pre-processing pipelines to facilitate model development.

• Collaborate with linguists, cultural experts, and AI researchers to ensure that the LLM meets diverse user requirements and cultural considerations.

• Deploy, oversee, and maintain production-level LLM systems in cloud environments, ensuring high performance and reliability.

• Establish evaluation frameworks for models, utilizing metrics such as perplexity, BLEU, and human-centered benchmarks.

• Keep abreast of the latest developments in NLP, LLMs, and generative AI, incorporating cutting-edge research into Awarri's language model initiatives.

• Document processes, architectures, and results for effective knowledge sharing and collaboration across teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• At least 3 years of experience in AI/ML engineering, particularly in NLP and large language models.

• Extensive knowledge of transformer-based models such as GPT, BERT, T5, or similar.

• Proficient with frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Hugging Face Transformers.

• Experience in training and fine-tuning LLMs on large-scale, multilingual datasets.

• Strong programming capabilities, especially with NLP libraries and tools.

• Experience in constructing pipelines for text data collection, pre-processing, and annotation.

• Familiarity with cloud services such as AWS, Azure, or GCP for deploying scalable NLP solutions.

• Proven ability to tackle open-ended research challenges and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including linguists and cultural experts.

• A successful history of developing and deploying NLP systems that provide measurable value in production environments.
