This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Take ownership of essential month-end and year-end accounting functions, which include journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and financial reporting.
• Supervise accounting activities across all legal entities, ensuring precise consolidation and intercompany eliminations.
• Uphold strict separation of trust (client funds) and operating accounts to comply with regulatory standards and internal policies.
• Manage financial exposure reporting related to payment losses, chargebacks, and disputes, collaborating with Risk and Operations to assess, provision for, and mitigate losses.
• Oversee foreign exchange exposure across multi-currency entities and guarantee proper documentation for hedging.
• Create and enforce a framework for internal controls across all accounting processes, paying particular attention to the segregation of duties and the safeguarding of payment funds.
• Lead the year-end audit, SRED submission, tax filings, and all regulatory reporting responsibilities.
• Ensure compliance with ASPE/IFRS and maintain up-to-date accounting policies for every entity.
• Actively identify control deficiencies and implement remediation strategies prior to them becoming audit issues.
• Oversee and support payroll operations in North America, including payroll accounting, reconciliations, and compliance considerations.
• Supervise AP-related processes and controls, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and robust reconciliation practices.
• Manage the accounting technology stack, assessing, implementing, and optimizing tools (Xero, Plooto, and others) to reduce manual effort and enhance accuracy.
• Collaborate with Business Intelligence and Engineering to automate reconciliations, reporting, and closing processes.
• Establish and maintain a continuous improvement roadmap for the accounting function, monitoring efficiency gains and reporting results to leadership.
• Lead the FinOps best-practices group, working with team leaders to govern and optimize variable usage-based costs like cloud and infrastructure expenditures.
• Work closely with FP&A on internal and investor reporting, ensuring accounting outputs are ready for investors.
• Act as the main accounting liaison for external auditors, tax advisors, banking partners, and payment processors.
• Deliver clear and timely financial reports to the Accounting Director and executive team.
• CPA designation or actively pursuing CPA completion.
• Strong technical accounting expertise, particularly in financial accounting and audit support.
• In-depth knowledge of ASPE and IFRS; experience in the tech or payments SaaS sectors is highly preferred.
• Proficient in Xero, Plooto, and BI/analytics tools; advanced skills in Excel are essential.
• Excellent analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail.
