Senior Accountant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• This remote opportunity is with a prominent firm in the renewable energy sector seeking a Senior Accountant for a 6-month maternity cover contract, commencing on 1 June 2026.

• Take charge of the organization's financial well-being by overseeing the entire management accounting cycle and ensuring adherence to statutory regulations.

• Lead a small team to provide precise reporting, enhance cash flow, and promote sustainable business growth within a highly regulated industry.

• Spearhead the collaborative development of annual operational and capital expenditure budgets.

• Generate detailed monthly and quarterly management accounts up to trial balance, which includes cash flow reporting and variance analysis.

• Draft and refine corporate governance policies in accordance with King IV, the Companies Act, and IFC Performance Standards.

• Facilitate the annual external audit process by preparing quarterly and draft annual financial statements.

• Develop and maintain a live company asset register and supervise the procurement of goods and services.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting is mandatory.

• 3–5 years of demonstrable experience in a Financial Controller, Internal Auditor, or External Auditor position.

• In-depth knowledge of the Companies Act, Income Tax Act, and VAT Act.

• Proven ability in preparing financial reports, managing accounts payable/receivable, and monitoring capital budgets.

• Experience interacting with the Department of Labour and an understanding of compliance in a regulated environment (experience in the Solar or Energy sector is highly advantageous).

• A post-graduate degree in Business Management (Honours or MBA) is preferred.

• Advanced experience in forecasting and managing company-wide asset registers.

• Familiarity with IFC Performance Standards and ESMS (Environmental and Social Management System) requirements.

• Proficient in advanced Microsoft Excel (VBA or complex modelling preferred).

• Competence in modern Accounting Software (e.g., Sage, Xero, or SAP).

• Experience with SARS e-Filing and statutory submission portals.
