Senior Accountant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop a comprehensive understanding of Clutch’s business model, the credit union client base, and the month-end closing process.

• Take ownership of assigned balance sheet reconciliations and journal entries, ensuring accuracy and punctuality.

• Achieve proficiency in QuickBooks Online and our extensive financial stack, including the Rippling integration.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to guarantee that transactions are recorded accurately and comply with U.S. GAAP.

• Manage at least one complete close cycle from start to finish, documenting the process and identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency and strengthen controls.

• Assume responsibility for key areas of the general ledger, such as the chart of accounts, prepaid asset schedules, and fixed asset/depreciation registers.

• Assist with technical accounting analyses, including revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606.

• Contribute to the improvement and documentation of accounting policies, closing procedures, and internal controls, including materiality thresholds and expense limits.

• Compile PBC lists, support audit requests, and serve as the primary operational liaison for external auditors during our financial statement audit.

• Collaborate with FP&A and business stakeholders to enhance financial reporting and operational insights, while coordinating monthly GL workflows with our distributed accounting team and reviewing their deliverables for accuracy and compliance with U.S. GAAP.

• Act as a trusted accounting partner across the organization, providing insights on accounting implications for new products, contracts, and business initiatives.

• Lead initiatives for process improvement that enhance automation, scalability, and closing speed.

• Suggest and implement best practices to support a growth-oriented business, including timely and accurate sales tax and annual tax reporting.

• Mentor junior team members and contribute to building a high-performing accounting function that is prepared for ongoing growth.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.

• CPA license (or active progress toward acquiring your CPA) is strongly preferred.

• 3–6 years of progressive accounting experience, including a minimum of 2 years leading or co-leading a full-cycle month-end close.

• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, particularly ASC 606 revenue recognition.

• Direct experience managing general ledger accounts, reconciliations, accruals, and month-end closing processes.

• Experience in a venture-backed, fast-paced startup environment where priorities shift rapidly.

• Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to maintain a balance between accuracy and speed.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

• Ability to articulate accounting concepts clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders.

• A proactive approach; you can identify issues before they escalate and enjoy finding ways to enhance workflows.

• Experience managing a financial statement audit from start to finish, including ownership of PBC and direct communication with auditors.

• Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online (or a similar ERP) and Excel/Google Sheets (for reconciliations, models, and lookups).
