This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Act as the leading expert and growth catalyst for the K–12, Higher Education, and Government market segments within the company.
• This individual will oversee the complete strategy for achieving success in education and government, encompassing the understanding of how schools, universities, and government entities specify, fund, and acquire flooring; as well as shaping the product portfolio, segment relationships, and sales strategies that drive revenue, profit, and market share growth.
• Create and sustain a detailed understanding of the education and government market, including enrollment trends, facility construction and renovation cycles, funding sources (state/local/federal bonds/funding), and the competitive landscape.
• Establish the company’s positioning and value proposition aimed specifically at facilities teams and the design/specification community that serves them.
• Formulate the company’s strategic direction regarding “where to play” and “how to win,” along with the execution plan.
• Set both short-term and long-term revenue targets and growth strategies for the segment.
• Develop the sales playbook (“How to sell”), detailing how to navigate the buying process involving facilities directors, purchasing departments, architects/specifiers, and cooperative purchasing vehicles.
• Collaborate with national and regional sales teams to enhance segment expertise and build a robust pipeline.
• Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships with key architecture and design firms focused on education.
• Collaborate with product development and marketing to ensure the product portfolio aligns with segment-specific needs such as durability, acoustics, indoor air quality, budget tiers, and relevant sustainability certifications.
• Advocate for performance properties relevant to education/government innovations, including ease of maintenance, moisture protection, and durability.
• Provide customer feedback from the segment to inform the product development roadmap.
• Engage with relevant industry associations (e.g., A4LE, APPA) to enhance brand visibility and credibility.
• Work closely with marketing to create segment-specific content, case studies, sales materials, CEU courses for architects and specifiers, and trade show initiatives.
• Position the company as a reliable advisor on flooring solutions for learning environments, focusing on acoustics, design, safety, and wellness.
• Represent the company at significant education/government industry events and forums.
• Manage the P&L for the education/government segments.
• Monitor both leading and lagging performance indicators.
• Report on segment performance to senior leadership and adjust strategies as needed.
• Preferred expertise in one or more of the following areas: Commercial Flooring Experience — 10+ years in a senior sales, segment, or business development role within commercial flooring, with demonstrable experience in the education and/or government segments.
• Existing relationships within the industry segments are essential.
• Building Products Segment — Experience from a related building products category (e.g., ceiling systems, furniture, lighting) where they led the education/government segment.
• Deep understanding of the education and government procurement cycle, with the ability to apply that knowledge to flooring.
• Education/Government Facilities / Procurement Leader — Extensive expertise as an end user (e.g., facilities leadership, university projects), comprehending the needs and procurement cycles associated with new and renovation projects.
• Architecture/Design – Strong background in designing and specifying education/government projects, with experience in managing projects from start to finish.
• A minimum of 10 years of overall experience, including at least 5 years in a position with direct responsibility for the education and/or government segments.
• In-depth knowledge of public education/government procurement processes, including cooperative purchasing vehicles, state bid schedules, and bond-funded capital initiatives.
• Familiarity with the specification process and the roles of architects, interior designers, and owners’ representatives in project delivery.
• Knowledge of relevant certifications and standards such as FloorScore, EPD, HPD, C2C, etc.
