Sales and Use Tax Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Prepare, review, and submit complex sales and use tax returns across multiple states.

• Analyze invoices, sales transactions, purchase data, and expense records to assess taxability.

• Reconcile monthly sales and use tax general ledger accounts while maintaining comprehensive, audit-ready workpapers and documentation.

• Monitor and evaluate nexus, registration requirements, and other state and local compliance obligations.

• Act as the primary liaison for client and state inquiries, including notices, audits, and correspondence with tax authorities.

• Conduct sales and use tax research, support voluntary disclosure agreements, refund claims, and manage exemption certificates.

• Provide guidance to internal teams and clients regarding the taxability of products and services.

• Collaborate with various teams to enhance tax system configurations, integrations, and automation.

• Maintain internal sales and use tax calendars.

• Work alongside senior leadership to monitor compliance metrics, identify process inefficiencies, and recommend scalable process and system improvements.

• Participate in weekly team meetings and contribute to training, documentation, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

• Attend internal meetings, training sessions, and tax planning discussions.

• Cross-train on Kruze’s services and clientele.

• Engage in continuous professional development.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 2 years of experience in multi-state sales and use tax or indirect tax.

• Solid understanding of sales and use tax regulations, taxability, exemptions, and reporting obligations.

• Proven experience in preparing and filing sales and use tax returns.

• Familiarity with sales and use tax compliance software such as Avalara, Vertex, or similar tools.

• Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting/ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks).

• Exceptional attention to detail and the capability to meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
