Sales and Use Tax Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Prepare, review, and submit intricate multi-state sales and use tax returns.

• Examine invoices, sales transactions, purchase information, and expense records to assess taxability.

• Reconcile monthly sales and use tax general ledger accounts while maintaining comprehensive, audit-ready workpapers and documentation.

• Oversee and evaluate nexus, registration requirements, and other state and local compliance obligations.

• Act as the main point of contact for client and state inquiries, including notices, audits, and communication with taxing authorities.

• Conduct sales and use tax research, support voluntary disclosure agreements, manage refund claims, and handle exemption certificates.

• Counsel internal teams and clients regarding the taxability of products and services.

• Collaborate across teams to enhance tax system configurations, integrations, and automation.

• Maintain internal sales and use tax calendars.

• Collaborate with senior leadership to monitor compliance metrics, identify process inefficiencies, and suggest scalable process and systems improvements.

• Participate in weekly team meetings and engage in training, documentation, and knowledge-sharing efforts.

• Attend internal meetings, training sessions, and tax planning workshops.

• Cross-train on Kruze’s offerings and client engagements.

• Commit to continuous professional development.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in multi-state sales and use tax or indirect tax.

• Strong understanding of sales and use tax regulations, taxability, exemptions, and reporting obligations.

• Proven experience in preparing and filing sales and use tax returns.

• Familiarity with sales and use tax compliance software such as Avalara, Vertex, or similar tools.

• Proficient in Excel and experienced with accounting/ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, QuickBooks).

• Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines in a dynamic work environment.
