This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado.
• Drive enhancements in the quality, completeness, and accuracy of medical record documentation.
• Provide education and training to the Clinical Documentation Integrity team through thorough audit investigations, clinical criteria research, and data analysis.
• Create and implement a structured CDI orientation program.
• Compose and submit written queries to healthcare providers for documentation clarification.
• Collaborate with Coding, Health Information Management, Patient Safety and Quality, Enterprise Compliance Services, and Revenue Integrity.
• Conduct detailed clinical documentation of specific patient records to evaluate accuracy.
• Establish and execute an internal auditing process alongside the CDI Manager to ensure query compliance.
• Educate providers, coders, and the CDI team on clinical documentation principles, health data, quality outcomes, and compliance regulations.
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or a related field (or an Associate's Degree with equivalent additional experience) is required.
• 7-9 years of nursing experience, including at least 2 years in an acute care environment, is required.
• 1-3 years of experience in CDI, clinical coding, DRG coordination, or Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement, which can be included in the 7-9 years mentioned above, is required.
• 1-3 years of educational or supervisory experience is preferred.
• RN-Registered Nurse certification from the Department of Regulatory Agencies is required.
• Familiarity with clinical criteria, pathophysiology, evidence-based practices, and the latest trends in medical treatment is essential.
• Ability to effectively communicate concepts to physicians and other healthcare professionals to educate them about clinical documentation requirements.
• Must demonstrate clinical expertise in urgent/emergent care, medical/surgical, obstetrical, pediatric, and ambulatory care settings.
• Understanding of CMS Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care, and Commercial health plan billing, reimbursement, and regulations is necessary.
• Knowledge of value-based purchasing, bundled payments, accountable care organizations, readmission reduction programs, and public reporting of quality outcomes is essential.
