Risk Strategist, Financial Crimes

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Assist in executing Stripe’s global Financial Crime (FC) strategy by converting Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Sanctions policies into standards, frameworks, and first-line programs that facilitate product growth while ensuring compliance.

• Play a key role in the design and continuous enhancement of financial crime controls, including transaction monitoring, screening, onboarding/re-onboarding, and safeguards related to digital assets.

• Collaborate across various functions such as Product, Engineering, Compliance, Legal, Operations, and Data Science to align priorities and tackle emerging challenges.

• Support the enhancement of FC infrastructure by gathering requirements and aiding in the execution of investigative tools, monitoring systems, and metrics for control effectiveness.

• Serve as a trusted advisor to business, product, and engineering teams, integrating financial crime considerations into product and market launches in a balanced manner.

• Evaluate and analyze existing processes, suggesting improvements that bolster effectiveness, enhance user experience, and anticipate regulatory or ecosystem changes.

• Remain updated on industry practices and provide insights that assist Stripe in advancing its financial crime risk management strategy.


⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of professional experience in Financial Services, Payments, or Fintech, with a minimum of 5 years in a relevant role (risk, compliance, or product enablement).

• Extensive subject matter expertise in AML, sanctions screening, and transaction monitoring, including knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements and practical program implementation.

• Demonstrated capability to design, implement, and operationalize financial crime standards and controls within complex, global organizations.

• Knowledge of cryptocurrency, digital assets, or other emerging technologies and their evolving regulatory frameworks.

• Proven experience in developing risk solutions and strategies, working closely with Product, Engineering, and Operations to translate them into actionable enforcement.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to challenge existing processes and propose practical, innovative alternatives.

• Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders across various functions and regions.

• A results-driven, accountable mindset, capable of pursuing ambitious goals while inspiring and leading others.

• Comfort in operating within a dynamic, high-growth environment characterized by shifting priorities and limited precedents.

• A Bachelor's Degree.
