This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Oversee merchant activities to identify risks related to fraud, compliance, reputation, operations, ACH, chargebacks, and transactions.
• Investigate flagged activities such as held transactions, large dollar amounts, refunds, duplicate transactions, excessive authorizations or declines, suspicious processing behaviors, and emerging risk patterns.
• Conduct comprehensive merchant risk assessments and maintain thorough documentation of cases, investigations, outreach, escalations, follow-ups, and resolutions in Salesforce.
• Manage reviews for bank account changes, including validation, verification, approvals, system updates, quality control, and post-change surveillance.
• Assist in website evaluations, LegitScript screenings, alert investigations, negative media assessments, sanctions screenings, regulatory issues, prohibited activity examinations, and escalation of significant findings.
• Carry out enhanced due diligence and monitoring for high-risk sectors, such as specific MCCs, NEC classifications, non-profits, firearms/ammunition vendors, and other sensitive business categories.
• Monitor chargeback, ACH, and NACHA-related activities, focusing on return rates, unauthorized and administrative returns, recurring payments, thresholds, trend analyses, and remediation strategies.
• Assist with periodic KYC/KYB refreshes, merchant portfolio evaluations, and documentation validation.
• Keep risk monitoring logs, investigation records, reporting dashboards, and tracking tools updated; prepare regular reports.
• Document investigations, including findings, evidence, risk assessments, decisions, ownership, and recommended actions.
• Escalate critical risks related to fraud, compliance, sanctions, regulatory issues, or operational concerns to leadership.
• Contribute to improvements in risk processes, reporting, underwriting initiatives, and operational projects.
• Adapt to shifting priorities, procedures, risk controls, regulatory demands, and business initiatives.
• Assume responsibility for new tasks and support cross-functional projects.
• 1–3 years of experience in risk operations, underwriting, payment operations, fraud monitoring, banking operations, compliance operations, or a comparable role.
• Familiarity with payment processing workflows, merchant accounts, transaction monitoring, chargebacks, ACH returns, refunds, and risk indicators.
• Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to validate documentation, detect inconsistencies, and maintain precise case notes and tracking systems.
• Capable of managing multiple concurrent reviews, follow-ups, escalations, and time-sensitive cases effectively.
• Strong written communication abilities.
• Comfortable using CRM/case management tools, spreadsheets, and operational tracking systems.
• Able to adhere to established procedures while identifying gaps, control weaknesses, or opportunities for process enhancements.
• Demonstrates sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion when dealing with sensitive merchant, banking, fraud, and compliance information.
• Capable of collaborating across functions with Risk, Underwriting, Onboarding, Merchant Support, Finance, Product, and partner-facing teams.
• Working knowledge of ACH processing, NACHA Operating Rules, ACH return codes, unauthorized return thresholds, administrative returns, and best practices for ACH risk monitoring.
• Proficient in investigating ACH-related risk indicators, including unusual return activities, account validation issues, transaction anomalies, and merchant processing trends.
• Experience in merchant acquiring, PayFac operations, fintech, payment risk, card-not-present environments, or payment gateway operations is preferred.
• Familiarity with tools such as Payrix, Salesforce, Zift, Vantiv IQ, LegitScript, GIACT, Inscribe, or similar platforms is preferred.
• Experience in reviewing bank change documentation and account verification processes is preferred.
• Experience with chargebacks, ACH returns, transaction holds, duplicate transactions, excessive refunds, or large-ticket verification workflows is preferred.
• Knowledge of MCC risk classifications, high-risk industries, NEC classifications, prohibited merchant categories, and triggers for enhanced due diligence is preferred.
• Experience in preparing risk reports, KPI summaries, audit support documentation, or updates for operational leadership is preferred.
• Comfortable working in a remote-first environment with strong follow-through, attention to documentation, and ownership of tasks.
• Experience with ACH risk monitoring programs, NACHA compliance requirements, return rate management, and payment network regulations is preferred.
• Must be available to travel periodically, approximately 2–3 times per year.
• Must possess pre-existing authorization to work in Canada; visa sponsorship will not be provided.
