This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Develop, execute, and assess research initiatives.

• Lead and facilitate community-oriented research utilizing Indigenous methodologies and best practices from Indigenous women.

• Perform research and present findings to aid in the development of proposals and policies addressing challenges faced by Indigenous women and their families.

• Collaborate with the team to create research documents, policy suggestions, and project summaries.

• Apply project management principles, performance measurement techniques, and data governance protocols.

• Formulate short- and long-term research action plans that align with the ONWA Strategic Plan, project goals, performance indicators, and data governance standards.

• Evaluate existing data and pinpoint possible funding sources.

• Represent ONWA in regional and/or provincial government committees and discussions.

• Forge connections and work together with research institutions to cultivate partnership opportunities.

• Keep ONWA informed about current research developments impacting Indigenous women and their families.

• Report directly to the Research Manager.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Political Science, Public Health Administration, Epidemiology, Indigenous Studies, Women's Studies, or a related field.

• At least five (5) years of experience leading Indigenous community-focused research projects.

• Proven track record of conducting Gender-Based Analysis on issues pertinent to Indigenous women and their families.

• Demonstrated experience in conducting research, compiling and analyzing data, and drafting reports.

• Expertise in using statistical software for data analysis and management.

• Proficient in conducting interviews, focus groups, and sharing circles, with experience engaging individuals who have faced violence and trauma.

• Strong project management capabilities, including task prioritization, resource allocation, and timeline management.

• Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, incorporating active listening and the interpretation of diverse viewpoints.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

• Ability to effectively engage with government entities, Indigenous organizations, communities, and research institutions.

• Capacity to incorporate Indigenous viewpoints and values into research and data governance practices.

• In-depth knowledge of Indigenous research methodologies and both qualitative and quantitative research techniques.

• Familiarity with research and evaluation practices, performance measurement, and data governance.

• Understanding of issues affecting Indigenous women and their families, including gender-based violence, sexual violence, and MMIWG.

• Awareness of Indigenous data sovereignty principles; OCAP® training is an asset.

• Insight into social determinants of health and their effects on Indigenous women, families, and communities.

• Knowledge of not-for-profit organizations and community research environments.

• Understanding of both Western and Indigenous research methodologies, including evaluation methods and practices.

• Familiarity with research ethics practices, including national standards and policies regarding research involving Indigenous populations.

• Awareness of copyright law, intellectual property rights, and the implications of artificial intelligence in research is considered beneficial.

• Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, traditions, teachings, and community perspectives.

• Understanding of government systems, administration, and processes relevant to Indigenous research and policy development.

• Awareness of recent, historical, and intergenerational trauma experienced by Indigenous women and their families.

• Understanding of cultural trauma-informed care and best practices.

• Strong comprehension of Gender-Based Analysis from an integrated feminist, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive perspective.

• Proficiency in speaking an Indigenous language is considered an asset.
