This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.
• Oversee the research design of projects by establishing pertinent research questions and selecting suitable research methodologies, pre-analysis plans, measurement approaches, and statistical analysis strategies, while considering feasibility limitations (such as budget, resources, timelines, and real-world conditions).
• Collaborate with the Research Manager to monitor project progress, ensuring adherence to research design and maintaining high data quality.
• Evaluate necessary adjustments in the research design, implementation, or measurement strategy of projects, and assist in determining the final project direction in consultation with other Principal Investigators (PIs).
• Actively identify and address potential project risks.
• Generate innovative research concepts and formulate research proposals.
• Partner with GBL’s fundraising team to assist in funding applications for these concepts.
• Provide support to GBL’s Partnerships team in its interactions with firm partners, implementation partners, research collaborators, and funders regarding the technical aspects of research and collaboration, facilitating seamless and effective project execution.
• Take the lead in academic writing for projects, including academic papers and technical sections of funder reports.
• Mentor Research Managers, Research Associates, and other personnel.
• Conduct training sessions for Research Associates and other staff members.
• Contribute to enhancing the procedures, policies, and culture of GBL.
• Assist with GBL’s communications (blogs and articles) as needed.
• Represent GBL in meetings with external stakeholders, including delivering presentations.
• A PhD (or submitted dissertation) in Economics, Public Policy, Development, or a related discipline.
• Proficiency in rigorous research methodologies, including Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) and quasi-experimental techniques.
• Strong preference for experience in managing RCTs, along with a background in conducting social science or economic field research (including supervising data collection, managing teams of field workers, and designing and implementing surveys).
• Experience in handling large primary and secondary datasets.
• Proven track record in writing grant proposals and supporting fundraising efforts.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team, manage multiple projects, and demonstrate self-motivation.
• Excellent academic and non-academic communication skills (both written and verbal), with experience in translating findings into academic papers, technical reports, presentations, and other externally-facing materials.
• Strong preference for experience in low- and middle-income country contexts and a willingness to travel for fieldwork.
