This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Provide comprehensive support and assistance to ONWA's Research and Evaluation Portfolio, reporting directly to the Research Manager.

• Aid in community-based research initiatives and engagements by employing Indigenous community-driven research methodologies and best practices from Indigenous women.

• Collaborate with Researchers and staff involved in various research projects.

• Prepare information packages, toolkits, and research reports.

• Collect data using diverse Indigenous research methodologies.

• Conduct gap analyses and formulate preliminary outcome indicators to assess Indigenous women's safety, incorporating social and economic determinants.

• Engage in working groups addressing critical issues that affect Indigenous women and their families in Ontario.

• Highlight current developments in provincial and federal policies that impact Indigenous women and their families to the Research Manager.


⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Social Sciences, Indigenous Studies, Women's Studies, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• A minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience in research, policy analysis, community engagement, or project support.

• Proven organizational, time management, and presentation skills.

• Ability to independently follow through on assigned responsibilities within strict deadlines.

• Strong understanding and adherence to established Indigenous community-based research methodologies.

• Experience in conducting environmental scans and literature reviews, and synthesizing findings for reports, presentations, materials, and publications.

• Cultural relevance and sensitivity when producing research outputs.

• Exceptional written and oral communication skills, along with strong listening abilities.

• Competence in effectively interpreting both verbal and non-verbal communications.

• Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

• Ability to work with databases and related systems competently.

• Familiarity with analytical techniques, including gap analysis and gender-based analysis.

• Capability to compile, organize, and support the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data from multiple sources.

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team setting.

• Familiarity with and experience in not-for-profit organizations.

• Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous community-based research methodologies and best practices.

• Experience collaborating with Indigenous communities and understanding Indigenous cultures, traditions, teachings, and community perspectives.

• Awareness of current issues affecting Indigenous women and their families, including Indigenous Gender-Based Violence and Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG).

• Understanding of Indigenous data sovereignty principles and practices.

• Awareness of current provincial and federal policy issues affecting Indigenous women and their families.

• Experience with Indigenous organizations is considered an asset.

• OCAP® training is regarded as beneficial.

• Understanding of social determinants of health and their effects on Indigenous women, families, and communities is an asset.

• Proficiency in speaking an Indigenous language is considered an advantage.
