Release of Information Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Accurately and efficiently process assigned Release of Information requests and medical records within established turnaround times.

• Primarily manage Continuing Care and Disability Determination Services requests, with additional training on other request types as necessary.

• Access requests and medical records in accordance with client-specific protocols and security measures.

• Validate requests and patient authorizations to ensure compliance with HIPAA and statutory regulations.

• Classify request types and record them in ROI software.

• Retrieve and upload the requested sections of electronic or physical patient charts.

• Conduct quality-control checks to guarantee accurate releases and prevent breaches of Protected Health Information.

• Adjust invoices as necessary; generate invoices and billing materials for clients.

• Release records to authorized requesting parties and deny invalid or non-compliant requests.

• Return physically retrieved records to their designated repository locations.

• Document exceptions, communications, and pertinent request information in ROI software.

• Address requestor inquiries in a professional and efficient manner.

• Escalate questionable requests, suspected breaches, delays, connectivity issues, equipment malfunctions, and security concerns to supervisors.

• Uphold confidentiality, security, ethical standards, and compliance with VRC, healthcare facility, HIPAA, federal/state, and labor laws.

• Keep client information accurate and up to date.

• Assist additional facilities or request types during periods of backlog.

• Complete required training and undertake other assigned responsibilities.


⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma (GED) is required; a degree is preferred.

• Previous experience in Release of Information fulfillment is preferred.

• Proven attention to detail.

• Capability to prioritize, organize, and meet deadlines.

• Strong documentation and communication skills.

• Ability to maintain productivity and quality performance.

• Basic understanding of medical records and HIPAA is preferred.

• Prior experience with EHR/EMR platforms is preferred.

• Familiarity with Windows and Microsoft Office products.

• Proficient computer and Microsoft Office skills.

• Experience with operating printers, computers, fax machines, scanners, microfilm reader/printers, and similar equipment is preferred.

• Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to maintain focus for extended periods.

• Must be able to read, write, speak, and comprehend English.

• Bilingual skills are desirable.
