This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.
• Deliver scientific and technical assistance to facilitate interagency consultations in accordance with the Endangered Species Act (ESA), Magnuson-Stevens Act (MSA), Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA), Federal Power Act (FPA), and NEPA.
• Assess, collect, analyze, and compile scientific data to determine environmental effects on listed species and their habitats.
• Compose ESA Biological Opinions, Letters of Concurrence, and responses for MSA.
• Evaluate Biological Assessments and consultation documentation.
• Offer pre-consultation technical support to action agencies.
• Create NEPA documentation including Environmental Assessments (EAs) and Environmental Impact Statements (EISs).
• Draft permits and related materials for ESA section 10 activities.
• Collaborate with NMFS Science Centers, engineers, and interagency collaborators.
• Maintain administrative records and systems for tracking consultations.
• Engage in meetings with federal, tribal, and state stakeholders.
• A Bachelor’s degree with over 3 years of experience OR a Master’s degree in aquatic biology, conservation biology, fisheries management, wildlife management, or a related field, along with at least 1 year of experience relevant to the specific task order.
• Understanding of salmonid life cycles and habitat requirements.
• Excellent technical writing and communication abilities.
• A valid state driver’s license.
• Proven experience in drafting ESA and NEPA regulatory documents.
• Familiarity with ESA, MSA, NEPA, and related regulations.
• Experience in assessing impacts to salmonids and aquatic habitats.
• Background in collaborating with federal, tribal, and state partners.
