• Oversee and provide expert consultation on the technical elements of the production process, from the creation of initial deliverables to publication and beyond for all research outputs.
• Enhance the quality of the Production workflows through technical improvements.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to composition and ingestion in collaboration with the production vendor.
• Monitor and address publishing challenges, syndication, and indexing concerns, while communicating with PLOS staff regarding the distribution and reach of PLOS content.
• Ensure PLOS content meets the evolving requirements of syndication partners, and collaborate with internal stakeholders to enhance the syndication process by offering technical support in the development of new workflows/APIs.
• Identify technical challenges impacting journal content and other research output production or display.
• Work with both internal and external stakeholders to guarantee swift resolutions and establish prospective timelines.
• Provide training for production staff on new workflows related to technical updates, as well as general training for new hires.
• Take ownership of comprehensive technical quality enhancements across production workflows, specializing in XML-first publishing, from issue identification through resolution, validation, and ongoing prevention.
• Bachelor's Degree.
• At least five years of experience managing vendors and independent contractors across various geographic locations, focusing on performance monitoring and enforcement of SLAs.
• A minimum of three years of direct specialist experience in a structured data environment utilizing markup languages, preferably XML.
• Extensive publishing background with a deep understanding of technologies employed in XML-first content publication workflows.
• Significant experience with the Journal Article Tag Suite (JATS), with the ability to diagnose, discuss issues, and propose tagging solutions confidently to internal and external stakeholders.
• At least three years of experience with archival and syndication workflows.
• Familiarity with Editorial Manager is a plus.
