This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.

📋 Description

• Develops compelling narratives that effectively inform, entertain, and engage targeted audiences and platforms through the use of analytics research.

• Works in conjunction with editors and frontline journalists both locally and throughout the USA Today Network.

• Aims to establish the community’s foremost voice in specialized areas.

• Enhances personal branding, as well as the brands of colleagues and the institution.

• Reports promptly, clearly, and accurately, delivering news through articles, video, social media, or any other available methods to connect with audiences.

• Leverages analytics to guide story selections and develop beat strategies.

• Cultivates a reporting beat, demonstrating a genuine interest in people and the ability to build trust.

• Creates and/or produces multimedia content that resonates with key audience segments, enhancing user experience on digital and social platforms to engage readers effectively.

• Explores innovative methods to inform and engage audiences on social media, demonstrating proficiency in alternative storytelling formats.

• Expected to have experience in utilizing AI and automation to bolster journalism, along with a willingness to explore new formats and platforms.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

• At least three years of experience in a professional newsroom or reporting capacity.

• Strong command of grammar, style, and copy editing.

• Experience in a digital-first newsroom, including the use of analytics to inform coverage decisions.

• Ability to report swiftly, clearly, and accurately in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

• Proven ability to cultivate and maintain a reporting beat.

• Proficiency in using social media platforms such as X, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat.

• Solid understanding of journalism ethics and sourcing practices.

• Openness to experimenting with new tools and storytelling formats, including responsible AI usage.

• Strong collaborative skills.

• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and minimum state-required liability insurance.
