This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Execute electrical engineering designs for LV, HV, and EHV electrical power systems, focusing on transmission and distribution substations.
• Supervise engineers and drafters in the intricate design projects of high-voltage substations.
• Manage project workflows and address issues across various engineering disciplines and project management.
• Offer engineering assistance to project management, procurement, and construction throughout all project phases.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams in the engineering and design of substation and transmission projects.
• Create single-line switching and protection diagrams, three-line diagrams, and DC schematics.
• Develop equipment specifications and assist in procurement, vendor coordination, and equipment evaluations.
• Generate bills of material, cable and conduit schedules, control-panel layouts, and wiring diagrams.
• Conduct calculations for AC/DC systems, battery sizing, overvoltage coordination, conduit fill, grounding, and lightning protection, and prepare comprehensive reports.
• Review physical drawings and calculations for substations, including arrangements, clearances, conduit, grounding, and lightning protection.
• Design underground MV and HV cabling systems, incorporating ampacity and installation details.
• Collaborate with clients, vendors, and subcontractors on design coordination and participate in meetings.
• Maintain all engineering documents and records.
• Work closely with purchasing and quality-control teams.
• Mentor designers/drafters and review and approve electrical drawings.
• Address project requirements across various sectors including engineering-only, EPC, utility, renewable, industrial, and commercial projects.
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Electrical Power Engineering.
• Coursework in power systems analysis, electrical machinery, and related subjects.
• Familiarity with NEC, ANSI, NEMA, IEEE, and other relevant codes and standards.
• Over 5 years of experience in designing transmission-level substations ranging from 13.8kV to 500kV.
• Experience in transmission line protection, substation protection and control systems, along with generator, transformer, and bus protection schemes.
• Proficiency in developing single-line, protection, control, and SCADA diagrams, including adherence to utility and ISO interconnection and operational requirements.
• Experience with equipment specifications, designs, and layouts for major equipment, protection, control, SCADA, and low-voltage auxiliary systems.
• Knowledge of capacitor banks and distribution feeder protection.
• Proven experience across all interfaces of transmission-level projects.
• At least 3 years of practical experience with SEL, GE, or similar relays.
• Understanding of NEC, NFPA, NESC, OSHA, NERC, RUS, IEEE, ANSI, IEC, and local/federal building codes.
• Familiarity with substation physical drawings and calculations.
• Professional Engineering license in one or more US states is preferred but not mandatory.
• Capacity to perform tasks from a leadership position.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
• Proficient in engineering theories and principles, research design issues, evaluate alternatives, make recommendations, and resolve time-sensitive challenges.
• Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, AutoCAD 2015 or later, and Microsoft Outlook.
• Willingness to travel approximately 10% of the time.
• Capability to lift or move equipment weighing up to 15 lbs.
