This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Conduct electrical engineering design for LV, HV, and EHV electrical power systems, focusing on transmission and distribution substations.
• Supervise engineers and drafters in detailed electrical and physical substation engineering design projects.
• Manage project flow and resolve issues across various engineering disciplines and project management.
• Provide engineering assistance to project management, procurement, and construction throughout all project phases.
• Coordinate and lead multidisciplinary engineering teams for substation and transmission initiatives.
• Create single-line switching and protection diagrams, three-line diagrams, and DC schematic diagrams.
• Develop equipment specifications and assist in equipment procurement, vendor coordination, and equipment evaluations.
• Generate bills of material, schedules for cables and conduits, control panel layouts, and wiring diagrams.
• Execute AC and DC system calculations, including battery sizing, overvoltage protection and coordination, conduit fill, grounding, and lightning protection.
• Choose protective devices and their ratings.
• Assess substation physical drawings and calculations, including layouts, clearances, conduit, grounding, and lightning protection.
• Design underground MV and HV cabling systems, focusing on cable ampacity and installation specifications.
• Collaborate on designs with clients, vendors, and subcontractors, and participate in meetings.
• Maintain engineering documentation and records.
• Work closely with purchasing and quality control teams.
• Mentor designers and drafters while reviewing and approving electrical drawings.
• Address project requirements and constraints across engineering-only, EPC, utility, renewable, industrial, and commercial projects.
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Electrical Power Engineering.
• Coursework in power systems analysis and electrical machinery.
• Familiarity with NEC, ANSI, NEMA, IEEE, and other relevant codes and standards.
• Over 5 years of experience in designing transmission-level substations ranging from 13.8kV to 500 kV.
• Proficiency in transmission line protection, substation protection and control systems, as well as generator, transformer, and bus protection schemes.
• Experience in developing station/substation single-line, protection, control, and SCADA diagrams, including utility and ISO interconnection and operational requirements.
• Background in equipment specifications, designs, and layouts, covering major equipment, protection, control, SCADA, and low-voltage auxiliary systems.
• Experience with capacitor banks and distribution feeder protection.
• Proven experience at all interfaces of transmission-level projects.
• At least 3 years of practical experience with SEL, GE, or similar relays.
• Knowledge of NEC, NFPA, NESC, OSHA, NERC, RUS, IEEE, ANSI, IEC, and local and federal building codes.
• Acquainted with substation physical drawings and calculations.
• Professional Engineering license in one or more US states is a plus but not mandatory.
• Capability to perform tasks in a lead capacity.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
• Proficient in engineering theories and principles, researching engineering and design challenges, evaluating alternatives, providing recommendations, and solving time-sensitive issues.
• Intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, AutoCAD 2015 or later, and Microsoft Outlook.
• Ability to lift or maneuver equipment weighing up to 15 lbs.
